Elliot Lake Online
Up North
It’s the place people go to escape, a place made of cabins, pine trees and lakes. But no matter how far you drive, there’s no sign to say “You’ve arrived.” So just follow your heart til you find, your special place that brings peace of mind. As you breathe in the air and unwind, your cares are all left behind. It’s no mystery where the northwoods start. When you’re “up north,” you’ll know in your heart.
— Suzanne Kindler 1996Thoughts : No doubt while looking back at 60 years of Elliot Lake there is many many dark and tragic times. I have seen and experienced much working at St.Joseph's Hospital as an Orderly Ambulance attendant. Are you old enough to remember the cartoons L'il Abner and Dick Tracy ? There was the little man who went around and everywhere he went a little cloud followed over his head. I think we all experience the storms of life. I remember a clerck at Blahey's Grocery store located in the lower parking lot. She lost her husband , her children, her whole family and grief and sorrow never stole her smile and radiance. Look at the epitaph on the monument on highway 108 it bears the name of many Elliot Lakers who left us with great memories. Fatima School was close to home in many ways. I look back to my wife Noreen , Mary Silaj ,Fred Mansfield , three educators who touched thousands of lives and their dedication lives on in the hearts of their students and to the benefit of their children. Elliot Lake radiates not because of Uranium but because of people who called it Home. Sound Of Solitude ( Click Here)[/a]
